November 3 – 25, 2011
Opening: 1st Thursday, November 3, 6pm – 8 pm
In November, Gallery4Culture presents Seattle-based artist Jason Hirata’s Bubble Tea, a series of photo-based, poster scale works revolving around the preparation, distribution, consumption and enjoyment of this sweet, tea-like fruit drink whose popularity is rapidly expanding. Producing digital prints that are composites (via Photoshop) of stock imagery purchased online and the artist’s own work, Hirata will install his posters in Gallery4Culture as well as around the city in various establishments responsible for the production and sale of bubble tea. Viewers can make the connection in chance encounters where art and commerce collide.
In 2009, Hirata earned a BFA from the University of Washington in Photomedia with additional studies in Comparative History of Ideas. Since then he has exhibited his photographic and performance-based work at work at Punch, James Harris Gallery, The Gift Shop (Henry Art Gallery), SOIL, and Seattle University’s Hadreen Gallery.
