4Culture proudly presents a selection of color inkjet prints on our street-front wall during the months of January and February. These works were gleaned from a treasure trove of photographic imagery produced by urban teens during the summer of 2012 as part of the Yesler Terrace Summer Youth Media Program, an ongoing six week mentored summer course that provides Yesler Terrace and neighboring youth the opportunity to discover their expressive voice through explorations in digital photography and video. With an emphasis on individual and communal expression, the 2012 students engaged with their community concerning its history, identity and future. The Yesler Terrace Summer Youth Media Program promotes civic engagement and community action and builds community connections as it empowers urban teens to serve as community advocates.
The Yesler Terrace Summer Youth Media Program is made possible through the active support of the following partners: Seattle Parks & Recreation’s RecTech (short for Recreational Technology), the Multimedia Resources and Training Institute (MMRTI), Youth in Focus, Seattle University’s Fine Arts Department and the Photo Center NW (PCNW).
