In addition to this celebration, King County publishes an annual calendar that features an artwork which reflects the the spirit of Dr. King’s values. This year, the calendar showcases a vibrant artwork entitled, Moving Forward by Native artist Alano Edzerza, who is locally represented by Stonington Gallery in Seattle. 4Culture purchased this artwork and it is now formally a part of the King County Public Art Collection.

About Moving Forward, Edzerza writes: The figure of Ga,ahaba—the Raven-Frog crest—seems electrified, dancing or flying towards a goal, and out of the reach of despair. To move beyond the injustices of the past is to reclaim one’s destiny and repurpose one’s life and define it by possibility, hope, self- determination, liberation.
