The Arts 4Culture Advisory Committee continues the 35-year legacy and guiding principles of the King County Arts Commission. This committee oversees the development of policies and priorities for the arts program and advises the 4Culture Board of Directors on issues relating to the region's arts organizations, local arts agencies, individual artists, arts educators, and service providers in all arts disciplines in all communities of King County. Members are nominated to the Board by 4Culture's Executive Director and serve for two three-year terms. The committee meets monthly to establish and review procedures for the arts granting programs and to identify regional priorities or initiatives on behalf of our Northwest community.
The Arts Advisory Committee meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the offices of 4Culture unless otherwise posted.
Ronda Billerbeck is the Cultural Programs Manager for the City of Kent. She oversees the Kent Arts Commission and their activities including an active performing arts program, community events, granting programs, a variety of publications and the City's Public Art Program and collection. She developed Kent's Spotlight Series of performing arts events, a season of professional performances and increased attendance by 66%. Ronda has served as President of Arts Northwest and is currently Advocacy and Lobbying Chair for the Washington State Arts Alliance. She is a founding member of the South King County Cultural Coalition and an active member of Western Arts Alliance, Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Americans for the Arts and the King County consortium of Local Arts Agencies. In 2004, she completed a Senior Management Fellowship at Americans for the Arts in Washington D.C.
Carolyn Butler is a founding commissioner for the Duvall Arts Commission and long time arts activist for the entire northeast region. She has testified numerous times with the King County Council on behalf of the arts community and is currently Secretary of the Eastside Arts Coalition. Carolyn is well known to this office for her work on grant review panels, on-site review, and the Local Arts Agency network. She is a dance and fitness instructor and has been active in producing and promoting arts events and performances in Duvall and the Eastside. She is also an avid patron of the arts.
Cynthia Chesak teaches English and Drama at Foster High School in the Tukwila School District where she implements the drama curriculum. She is Secretary and past President of the Washington Alliance for Theatre Education and has served on the Washington State Committee for development of the Essential Learning Requirements, the Arts Curriculum Frameworks, and currently the Arts Education Assessment Team for OSPI. She is the former chair of the King County Cultural Education Advisory Committee and sits on the Tukwila Arts Commission. She has served on the Arts Advisory Committee for three years since the inception of the Cultural Development Authority in 2003.
Stephen Elliott is manager of the Theater at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. He is a long time participant in the Local Arts Agency consortium and former manager of the Carco Theatre in Renton.
Josh LaBelle is the Executive Director of the Seattle Theatre Group which operates the Paramount and Moore Theatres in Seattle. He spent four years with the William Morris Agency in Los Angeles, and eventually worked as an assistant booking concerts in the Music Division. He spent several years as a professional musician, performing and recording, primarily with T-Bone Burnett & Sam Philllips. Josh is also on the boards of the Washington State Arts Alliance Foundation and the Association of Performing Arts Presenters.
Latha P. Sambamurti serves on the Redmond Arts Commission as Chair of Community Programming. She is a teacher/lecturer on Indian art and a professionally trained vocalist and performer of classical Carnatic (southern Indian) music with a number of solo and ensemble performances here in the Northwest, Canada and India. She has formed bands with musicians in the Seattle area and in Vancouver, BC and given performances of popular (film) songs from India. In addition, she has written, directed and choreographed numerous productions for children based on the heritage and culture of her native India.
Stephanie Scopelitis is the Outreach Coordinator for Pacific Northwest Ballet and has broad experience in both dance and education. She has danced professionally with the Murray Louis Dance Company and Nikolais Dance Theater and she has taught dance in several universities including The University of Washington. She has served on the faculty at Butler University's Fine Arts Department and the Education Department at the Indiana University/Purdue University campus. She has received numerous grants and fellowships to support her continuing research with classroom teachers to collaborate in the design and implementation of programs that use dance to enhance writing skills. She has presented at conferences and educator workshops throughout the country. Stephanie has been recognized by Young Audiences of Indiana for her influential work in the arts and education.
