Sustained Support

Why King County Funds Operations

The Arts Sustained Support Program provides annual funding to arts organizations with a history of bringing arts experiences to King County residents. In order to promote a healthy and diverse arts community, the Arts Sustained Support program funds a broad range of arts organizations representing many arts disciplines, geographic areas, sizes and levels of development.

The Sustained Support program strengthens the overall mission of an organization through funding for annual program operating expenses. Operational support is critical to a healthy cultural ecology. Rent, salaries, marketing costs and utilities are among the routine expenses incurred in the ongoing delivery of cultural programs.

The Sustained Support Program seeks to provide predictable levels of financial support to organizations who maintain a consistent level of artistic activity, community impact and organizational stability. In 2009, $1,593,000 was awarded to 212 arts organizations and local arts agencies through the Sustained Support Program.

PLEASE NOTE: Although the Sustained Support Program application has traditionally been a biennial process, due to transitions in 4Culture's fund allocation and database technology the 2010 cycle of Sustained Support will be a one year cycle. Applicants will be expected to apply again in the fall of 2010 for the next biennium.
