Aberdeen, WA + Weatherwax Public Art Project
The City of Aberdeen, WA, in cooperation with the Grays Harbor Community Foundation, is seeking an artist to create a significant three-dimensional artwork for the Simpson Triangle, a highly traveled site between the business districts of Aberdeen and Hoquiam, WA. The artwork will honor the legacy of a local family and inspire both generosity and commitment to community in local residents and those that pass through the City.
The artwork will be of a scale and level of detail to support both motorist drive-by and up-close pedestrian viewing experiences, and will incorporate architectural sandstone blocks of local significance as a re-use material.
The artist for this commission will be selected through an open call process, with the final artwork decided on the basis of paid, competitive proposals.
4Culture Public Art is managing the artist selection process, final design development and artwork implementation process for this artwork opportunity.

Burien, WA + Call for Mural Artist
The City of Burien and the Burien Arts Commission is seeking an artist or artist team to create a dynamic, innovative mural on the exterior surface of a downtown Burien building. The wall is painted concrete and is 18 feet high by 160 feet wide. It is required that the artist cover at least 50% of the wall with the mural. The artist will be required to include some type of community aspect in the design and/or creation process. NYC, NY + NYCDOT Barrier Beautification Open Call
The New York City Department of Transportation’s Urban Art Program seeks submissions from artists for the annual Barrier Beautification open call. The commissioned temporary murals are for barrier sites that typically separate bicycle lanes and pedestrian paths from lanes of vehicular traffic. Atlanta, GA + FLUX 2012
Flux Projects is now accepting proposals for FLUX 2012, a one-night event which fills the streets and empty spaces of the Castleberry Hill Arts District with large and small-scale projections, performances, dance, music, light and sound installations, and other forms of multi-media works and public interactions. We are interested in works that are artistically compelling both aesthetically and conceptually, creative in their approach to public space and human interaction, and that address a broad audience. We are also interested in projects that involve community participation or address social concerns. Washington, DC + Beyond Granite: Temporary Commemorative Installation
The US General Services Administration, working with the National Capital Planning Commission, announces a competition for a temporary commemorative installation at the Ariel Rios Hemicycle, adjacent to the Ariel Rios Federal Building, which houses the headquarters of the US Environmental Protection Agency. The winning proposal will feature a site-specific, temporary work that commemorates the founding principles and legacy of Earth Day - an environmental subject not otherwise represented in the city's commemorative landscape - and which does so in a way that expands the palette of form and material for commemorative works in Washington.Deadline: March 01, 2012, 3:00pm

Your Town, USA + Creative Capital Awards
Now in our second decade, Creative Capital continues to consider itself the premiere provider of risk capital in the arts—taking chances on projects that are singularly bold, innovative and genre-stretching. We want to support the latest thinking in the field. This year, applications in the disciplines of Emerging Fields, Literature and Performing Arts.Emerging Fields may include architecture/design, digital arts, gaming, interdisciplinary, new genres, and sound art. New genres and interdisciplinary projects may include work that is a hybrid form (art & community, tactical interventions, etc.) or at the intersections of disciplines—both within the arts (art & architecture, art & design, etc.) and outside the field (art & social justice, art & biotechnology, art & ecology, art & genetics, etc.)—as well as immersive and interactive art, installation, performative installations, filmformance and networked projects.
We remain engaged with projects beyond the initial award of $10,000 with additional financial support of up to a total of $50,000 as well as targeted advisory services, tools, resources and relationships that help our artists maximize this opportunity and create successful projects.

Washington, DC + Animating Democracy Impact Intern
Animating Democracy inspires, informs, promotes, and connects arts and culture as potent contributors to community, civic, and social change. While the potency of the arts as a catalyst for civic and social change is widely observed, practitioners struggle to prove how investments in arts-based civic engagement lead to social change. The IMPACT Intern will support Animating Democracy’s goal to drive evaluation practice forward by activating practitioners and specialists to build knowledge and improve the efficacy of arts for change work. S/he will work primarily to expand Resources and Tools for the IMPACT web site and to support Animating Democracy’s activities to advance field understanding of assessing social impact of arts for change work.Stipend: Interns and grad assistants receive a modest stipend based on the commitment of time and duration of the internship.
Responsibilities: Prepare abstracts, annotation and data sheets for backlog of Resources Research promising articles, tools, frameworks, case studies to expand the database of resources Research examples of creative documentation and communication strategies that convey outcomes in relevant and compelling ways Develop a roster of evaluation specialists who can serve as effective resources to arts practitioners
Qualifications: Some background, experience and interest in evaluation is important. Strong research and writing skills. Ability to work independently. This position does not require being in the Americans for the Arts office. This person would work most closely with Pam Korza, co-director, Animating Democracy.

The Kresge Foundation’s Arts and Culture Program helps nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in the U.S. properly maintain their buildings through Facility Investments and Building Reserves Grants. Organizations may apply for two types of grants: Facility investments grants support an organization’s renovation and repair projects. Palm Desert, CA + 2013-2014 El Paseo Invitational Exhibition
El Paseo is the premier shopping street in Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley, located in Southern California. The exhibition space consists of eighteen lighted concrete pads located in the median along a one and one half mile stretch of prime retail. The artwork remains on exhibition for approximately 2 years, with installation planned for October - November 2012 and de-installation planned for November 2014. Rapid City, SD + Main Street Square Sculpture Commission and Residency
The Rapid City Arts Council, in partnership with Destination Rapid City, is requesting qualifications from sculptors interested in participating in an on-site commission project. The sculpture project will make use of a number of granite stones already in place on-site. The stones are arranged in symbolic reference to regional landscapes. There is a series of 10 stones that reference the Black Hills, a series of 9 stones that reference the Badlands and two 35’ spires that reference the location of Rapid City between these two astounding landscapes. One contract will be awarded for a sculptural series to be created using the available stones. All sculptures should be completed within 3-5 years.A significant portion of the sculpting must take place on site in Rapid City and some interaction between the artist(s) and visitors to the square is expected. Studio space may be made available. Of the total award to the artist or team of artists, 5% will be retained for one year after the entire project is completed and accepted to cover any unanticipated repairs due to flaws in construction.

McDonogh School seeks to commission an artist to design an original outdoor, site-specific installation that will acknowledge and honor the African American slaves of the school’s founder. The intent of the memorial is to “honor those who contributed to the foundations of our school but who are not yet recognized.” The location for the memorial will be in a large open area near the Tagart Memorial Chapel on the grounds of McDonogh School. Olympia, WA + Small Scale Museum Exhibits Workshop
The purpose of this workshop is to learn how to conceptualize, design and fabricate a small exhibit from A to Z. A lot of the design of an exhibit is in the conceptualization--editing down but folks new to the process need to get a method to begin. King County, WA + Immediate Restoration Tech Opening at Northwest Railway Museum
The Northwest Railway Museum has an immediate opening for a restoration technician to work on the 1898-built chapel car Messenger of Peace. More information about the car is on the web at www.messengerofpeace.org. The successful applicant must have carpentry and finish experience. The project is completing the window trim installation, roof decking rehabilitation, end platform restoration, and will then shift to interior work. Prior experience working with the Secretary of the Interior Standards would be a huge asset. This workshop is intended for professional staff, volunteers and students who wish to improve the performance of a board of directors for a non-profit arts or heritage organization. It is open to those currently serving on a board, individuals who staff a board of directors, and to people who wish to prepare for board service. Participants will review the typical duties of a board and discuss variations from working boards to policy setting boards. As a group we will review how to attract new board members, provide training for them, and what standards can be set for board performance. The Kresge Foundation’s Arts and Culture Program helps nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in the U.S. properly maintain their buildings through Facility Investments and Building Reserves Grants. Organizations may apply for two types of grants: Facility investments grants support an organization’s renovation and repair projects.
