The Port of San Francisco has retained the Arts Commission to assist in the commissioning of a public artwork to be located at Pier 92 along San Francisco's southern waterfront. Artwork opportunities may include a mural or kinetic artwork on the exterior wall of the northern grain silo or a lighting or multi-media project that illuminates or projects on the cranes or silos in the day or at night. The work should enliven the area and bring a sense of transformation to the site. Pier 92 is located at the entrance to the Bayview community and the artwork should make a strong visual statement in keeping with the gateway experience and industrial setting. The site is primarily an industrial area with shipping cranes and two large grain silos that have not been in use since the 1970s. Your Town, USA + Museum Assessment Program Application

The American Association of Museums provides guidance in meeting priorities and goals and understanding how your museum compares to standards and best practices. Since 1981, the Museum Assessment Program (MAP) has helped museums maintain and improve operations through a confidential, consultative process. Participating in MAP can help: prioritize goals so you can allocate resources wisely, document your needs so that you can make a stronger case to funders, provide recommendations on ways to become an even stronger institution. In less than a year, your museum can complete a self-study, have a site visit by a peer reviewer and begin implementing recommendations.
