London, England + Architectural Association School of Architecture: Concrete Geometries
The ‘Concrete Geometries’ Research Cluster at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London is seeking submissions of work from the fields of art, architecture, sciences and humanities that explore the relationship between spatial form and social or aesthetic processes.
‘Concrete Geometries’ is a work-in-progress term derived from the notion of ‘concrete’ as ‘existing in reality or in actual experience’ or ‘capable of being perceived by the senses’ and the abbreviation ‘geometries’ for the constructed environment. ‘Concrete Geometries’ like Concrete Science, Concrete Music or Concrete Art is interested in the particular and immediate, concerned with actual use or practice. ‘Concrete Geometries’ is an attempt to expand this current debate.
Set up as an cross-disciplinary Research Cluster at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, ‘Concrete Geometries’ investigates the intimate relationship between spatial form and human processes - be they social or aesthetic - and the variety of new material entities this relationship might provoke. By bringing together art, architecture, sciences and humanities, we hope to connect fields of knowledge that are currently fragmented through disciplinary boundaries.
To advance this research, we are seeking submissions that provide practical or theoretical contribution. Submissions may include works of art or design, architectural projects or case studies, urban studies, research papers, scientific experiments and other forms of inquiry that address the objectives outlined.
The call is open to students, practitioners and researchers from the fields of Architecture, Fine Art, Design, Urban Design, Geography, Neuroscience, Behavioral Psychology, Spatial Cognition, Social Science, Ethnography, Anthropology and other disciplines concerned with such questions.

Your Town, USA + Fundred Dollar Bill Project
The Fundred Dollar Bill Project supports Operation Paydirt by symbolically raising the $300,000,000 needed to create a lead-safe New Orleans! Lead-contaminated soil is an issue in most major U.S. cities and contributes to the detrimental effects of lead-poisoning. The health of children across the nation is being threatened by the very ground they play on. In New Orleans alone 86,000 properties are estimated to have unsafe levels of lead in the soil. At least 30% of the inner city childhood population is affected from lead-poisoning. Operation Paydirt offers a scientifically-proven method to neutralize hazardous lead (Pb). A team of scientists, architects, community groups and city officials are developing this strategy. The estimated cost to treat New Orleans soil is $300,000,000.
Draw your unique Fundred Dollar Bill, mail it to a Fundred Collection Center and be part of the solution to eliminate the devastating effects of lead-contaminated soil that currently places children at risk for severe learning disabilities and behavioral problems. This nationwide drawing project will honor the value of your action. Make a Fundred! Make a Difference!
These valuable drawings will be picked up by a special armored truck and presented to the U.S. Congress with a request for an even exchange of the creative capital–your Fundreds–for real funding to make safe lead-polluted soils in New Orleans. Once we create a lead-safe New Orleans, this innovative environmental model will be available to other lead-polluted cites. The armored truck began nationwide pick-up in January 2010. Check the website below for pick-up locations and dates.

Recognizing that so much of our national debate is conducted in imagery -- and that tremendous effort is expended to spin things toward the status quo -- the call is going out to artists to use our expressive powers and social imagination to focus public attention on whatever must be put right and whatever suggests how that may be accomplished. SPARC, the Social and Public Art Resource Center in Venice, California, has inaugurated the National Call to Artists, a Web repository for images, songs, scripts, and ideas. A key aim is to challenge and assist activists to make effective use of creative imagery, action, and imagination in mobilizing awareness and participation in social action. It's easy to download artwork to the site, and activists are free to make use of it. Please share this information today!

Seattle, WA + Sound Transit: U-Link Project – Temporary Public Art and Events
Sound Transit's University Link is the 3.15 mile extension of light rail from downtown Seattle to the University of Washington. Sound Transit is looking for ideas for community events or a temporary public art display during the different phases of construction.
The first round of work at the site of the Capitol Hill Station has been finished. Sound Transit is in contact with the Capitol Hill Chamber and other community organizations to discuss various potential uses for the paved site while it awaits the next phase of construction. Sound Transit could co-sponsor one or more community events, if a capable partner group would help define and organize the activities. Or someone could organize their own event for the site, provided they had liability insurance.
The possibility of a temporary public art display, analogous to the displays installed in the vacant storefronts before the buildings were demolished is also being considered. Sound Transit is open to good ideas, particularly from groups and organizations who could marshal the resources for success. Sound Transit will work with them on the details. The parameters are simple - no alcohol, no commercial use, and mindful of how public funds are being spent. Anyone is free to submit an idea for temporary use of the Capitol Hill construction site.

Den Haag, The Netherlands + Marcello’s Art Factory/URM Project
An Urban Ready Made (URM) is a street, a building, a view, an object or an event in an urban- or industrial environment, where a conjunction of circumstances cause beauty and art. When an artist or architect declares this (with some ritual proceedings) art, it becomes an Urban Ready Made. With the Urban Ready Mades Project we would like to bring art closer to people. Art doesn't have to be difficult to understand. You can find beauty everywhere and to enjoy art you don't have to visit a museum or an exposition. We hope our project lets people realize that they can find art and beauty in their own city.
Marcello & Els, the founders of the project, want to give other artists and architects a chance to declare an URM in their own surroundings and join this unique concept. This way there will grow a "gesammtkunstwerk" (a collective work of art) of thousands of URM's, which will go beyond borders. Firstly this is going to take place in the form of a virtual exhibition on the World Wide Web, crossing virtual borders. In the year 2010 it will become a traveling exhibition, kicking off in The Hague.

Derbyshire, England + Sutton Scarsdale Hall Call for Concepts
With this call for entries, the Centre of Attention is seeking concepts and proposals for the re-imagining of Sutton Scarsdale Hall into a pavilion of postcontemporary curating. This call is open to architects, designers, artists, curators and others. Concepts and proposals can be submitted as drawings, images or texts, by email to the address listed below. All ideas, gestural, utopian or pragmatic are welcome. At this stage we need to raise an initial £1,250,000. Fundraiser launch in London: late Autumn 2009
The skeletal remains of Sutton Scarsdale Hall continue to decay. A dilapidated wreck of a structure, you enter at your own risk. In the very heart of England, Sutton Scarsdale Hall is to become the Pavilion of Postcontemporary Curating.
What is a pavilion of postcontemporary curating? First it will be a new international art facility set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The current Hall is a perfect exhibition/ performance space, lit from above, with high walls, neutral floor. It will be dedicated solely to new curating. Second, the Pavilion of Postcontemporary Curating will be a sculptural work incorporating the remains of Sutton Scarsdale Hall. Third, the pavilion of postcontemporary curating will provide a home for the Centre of Attention and its archive.
The space will have a special remit to act as a 'patron' to working class artists and curators by providing these facilities for free. It will facilitate new media production as well as old, it will have a library, archive, research facilities and study resource, studios and accommodation as well as a gallery dedicated to the history of the house. A sculpture, it will become part of the regional landscape and act as a beacon to advanced ideas and art praxis in the regional and international scene.
Timetable for the pavilion: (2009) secure the remains of the building. ACT NOW to stop the decay; source architects through competition and re-imagine the site; recruitment and announcement of Advisory Board (2010) construction of sculpture/art centre (2011) completion and inaugural exhibition and residency.

Interwebs + Wikipedia Saves Public Art (WSPA)
Students and faculty from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) have developed and launched the nation's first organized effort to document public art information in Wikipedia. Wikipedia Saves Public Art (WSPA), a growing collection of articles prepared for the online open access encyclopedia, makes monuments and outdoor sculpture – from the famous to the overlooked – accessible to all. It is a unique and major step toward sharing and preserving an often underappreciated segment of the world's cultural heritage.
Wikipedia Saves Public Art (WSPA) aims to encourage the creation of accurate, informative and up-to-date articles about public art. The project was inspired by an appreciation for public art and a shared concern that many artworks remain invisible within the context of Wikipedia. Ideally, WSPA will continue to grow from the center of Indiana into a global initiative that results in improved quality and quantity of articles about public art.
Please help us improve Wikipedia's coverage of public art. While it's not necessary to list your name to add or edit public art articles, it might be a helpful way to organize and mobilize collaborators. Because this project relies on the emergence of new editors to help create content alongside existing editors, everyone is reminded to see this behavioral guideline: Please do not bite the newcomers.

Ghent, NY + Omi International Art Center
Architecture Omi is offering 120 acres of land at its international facilities in Ghent, New York, for use by arts groups and organizations, museums, collectors, galleries, and entrepreneurial creators to explore the many intersecting relationships between architects and artists.
The spectrum of concepts goes from a structure as a work of art itself, to the design of structures meant to contain works of art and new art forms. How are the margins blurring, conjoining, arguing and becoming realized in the 21st century context. The Program has defined four classifications for submission consideration: 1-Pavilions, 2- Private Collection Museum, 3- Transit Sculpture, 4- Earthworks. A familiarity with new art and architecture activity is necessary for each category, but the flight of imagination is unlimited.
