Gallery4Culture 2005-2006 Season
CAPITOL HILL WATERCOLOR SOCIETY DISASTER July 6 - 28, 2006
reception JULY 6, 2006, 6 - 8 p.m.
Gallery4Culture is pleased to present new paintings by members of the Capitol Hill Watercolor Society.
The Capitol Hill Watercolor Society, founded in 2003 by Kate Greiner and Suzy Ummel, is a loosely organized group of young artists who all share a love for the underappreciated medium of watercolor. The invitational membership is based on an amiable disposition as much as artistry. The moniker is a nod to the large, rather stuffy watercolor societies that dominate the world of watercolor painting.
Since its inception, the Capitol Hill Watercolor Society has held an annual show of paintings by members and friends, modeled on exhibitions held by other regional watercolor societies. The subject of "Disaster" was chosen for this year's show for its opposition to the perception of watercolor as delicate and soft, the medium of the weekend painter.
The current membership is Sarah Brooking, Shannon Freshwater, Treasure Frey, Emily Gherard, Kate Greiner, Nate Herth, Ethan Jones, Bryan Mandronico, Christina Miller, Aaron Murray, Aubrey Nehring, Molly Norris Curtis, Natalie Oswald, Bryan Theiss, Alice Tippit, Suzanne Ummel and P. Williams.
A reception will be held on July 6, 2006, the first Thursday of the month, during the Downtown Artwalk, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Disaster is on display from July 6 - July 28, 2006.
