4Culture strives to honor our veterans throughout the year. In 2013, we launched Vets Restore, a pilot program to provide education and career training program for King County veterans in the field of historic preservation carpentry. We are pleased to report 4Culture and our Vets Restore partners, including the King County Veterans’ Program, Historic Seattle and Seattle Central Community College Wood Technology Center are working now on improvements to grow and implement the program in 2014!

If you’re working with veterans or are interested in doing so, you should take advantage of a valuable resource we have here in our region, The Veterans Training and Support Center. VTSC provides educational opportunities (usually free of charge) to those who provide service to veterans and their family members. They seek to raise awareness and understanding on issues specific to veterans such as invisible wounds like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, and to encourage organizations to establish best practices that will empower recent veterans in their reintegration to civilian life. The project is funded by the King County Veterans and Human Services Levy and the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs PTSD & War Trauma Counseling Program.

We look forward to learning more from VTSC and of course, from veterans themselves.
