The University of Washington Museology Graduate Program, in partnership with 4Culture and the Association of King County Historical Organizations (AKCHO), is pleased to announce the 2012 Museum Internship Fair on the University of Washington Seattle campus from noon to 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 19.

A panel discussion and networking opportunity for local cultural sites to discuss the successes, challenges and opportunities related to hosting an internship will take place in the UW Tower Visitors Dining Room & Mezzanine. The panel and discussion will be followed by the internship fair where host sites will have the opportunity to meet and interact with students from the Museology Graduate Program and the Museum Studies Certificate Program.

Internships provide a means for students to gain professional experience, while also providing value to host sites through their service and expertise.  Host sites are local, regional and statewide institutions ranging from small volunteer-run heritage sites, to large museums, zoos and aquaria.

Museology graduate students complete nearly 10,000 hours of internship work each year and bring with them past work experience, in addition to graduate level coursework in collections management, exhibit development, audience research and  evaluation, education, program planning, fundraising, and administration.

To reserve a table for your site at the internship fair, please RSVP by e-mailing Nick Visscher or calling 206-221-0763 by September 4, 2012.  Include your contact information, institution and position title. Parking and logistical details will be sent with the RSVP confirmation.
