A reminder that there will be a discussion and informational forum on the current version of the Cultural Access Fund Coalition (CAF) legislation on September 18th, from 10am to noon at ACT Theatre in downtown Seattle (700 Union). We encourage you to attend.
The Cultural Access Fund is statewide legislation that will be introduced in the 2014 legislative session to increase public support for arts, heritage, science and culture in the state of Washington.
Some of you may be familiar with the legislation which was developed by a coalition of 35 cultural organizations in the Puget Sound region. The legislation seeks authority from the state to put a measure on the ballot in any county to ask voters to approve public funding dedicated to increasing public access to a variety of cultural experiences. The legislation has a special emphasis on arts education and transportation to cultural organizations by school groups. For the 2014 session, the bill has been modified from previous versions with the goals of simplifying it and clarifying the arts education component.
The forum will include a review of the current version of the bill and how it could potentially apply to cultural organizations in King County. The forum will also include a brief update on the legislative and advocacy campaign for CAF by Carol Albert, Director of CAF. Additionally, this forum will provide ample opportunity for attendees to ask questions, express concerns, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the legislation.
There is no cost to attend, but we’ like to get a head count, so please RSVP to Graham Mills.
Please feel free to bring your staff colleagues and board members and spread the word among your professional networks.
