North of Seattle, echoes of the once bustling maritime industry in Shoreline are still visible. Looking surprisingly similar to how it looked in 1907, although no longer used for “ship breaking,” Richmond Beach is a wonderful place to take the family and explore the community’s interesting nautical history. Either before or after your trip to the beach, be sure to visit nearby Shoreline Historical Museum, which offers a wide collection of local maritime artifacts, including primary documents, clipping files, books and thousands of photographs. Their new exhibit “Connections:  Surface Water, Piped Water and Waste Water“ explores the area’s waterways, transfer systems and the human connections with both. The museum’s website describes the exhibit this way: “What earthly element makes people go crazy more than anything else? (No, it’s not lack of oxygen…) Yes, water can make us mad, sad and passionate!  Come and explore the community’s history with the element that we need and use as much as the air we breathe.” While you are in the neighborhood, be sure to check out these other summer events:
