Next June, the American Association for State and Local History will be providing professional training in Seattle through the Collections Management and Practices onsite workshop at the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience. Cosponored by 4Culture, the workshop is a rare opportunity to tap into national level experitise locally.
The two-day workshop on June 23-24, 2011, provides a forum for learning about your intitution’s responsibility toward its collections through policies, procedures, and best practices. With an emphasis on shoe-string budgets, you can become familiar with current collection care issues and trends; the role of collections in exhibitions interpretation; the basic steps of collections management from acquisition to disposal; professional standards and ethics; and resources available for collections preservation.
AASLH’s professional training is for everyone – individuals, volunteers, employees, and institutions. The onsite workshops are led by seasoned professionals in the field with years of experience in public history. The workshop fee is $250 for AASLH members.
