During the August recess open your doors to your local and Congressional Representatives

Invite Congress to your Museum
August 9-16

What will influence legislators most as they tackle tough budget and policy choices this year? According to recent research, constituent visits have more impact than any other influence group or strategy. As Congress breaks for its August recess, representatives return home to connect with their districts. With cultural funding at issue, it’s a good time to remind our political leaders of the value of museums, their collections and their role in creating a rich, diverse and vibrant civic life.

The American Alliance of Museums is  sponsoring the third annual, field-wide, “Invite Congress to Visit Your Museum Week,” August 9-16. We encourage every museum in King County to participate.

This is an excellent chance to follow-up with the staff and offices that you may have visited during Museums Advocacy Day or other times this year, and continue building those key relationships. It is also a good opportunity to show public and elected officials first-hand how your museum serves as an educational resource, an economic driver and a community anchor.

The Alliance provides all of the tools. Get started today: Find out who represents you in Congress, send an invitation letter and see the complete “How To” Guide.
