Contract Collections Specialist

The Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW), a project of the Nikkei Heritage Association of Washington (NHAW) is seeking a Contract Specialist that has experience with artifacts, particularly ones of Japanese and Japanese American origin. This position will oversee a project to assess and temporarily move the permanent historic collections of the Northwest Nikkei Museum to ensure its safety during facility construction. The Specialist reports to the Executive Director and will receive assistance from JCCCW staff and consultants.

Responsibilities
• Coordinate the Northwest Nikkei Museum collections move
• Identify and communicate needs of the collection to Executive Director and Board
• Collections Management: Protect intellectual control and physical organization of the collections and archives, assess condition of artifacts and identify non-Museum objects
• Project Management: Complete project-related paperwork and oversee project logistics
• Supervise project interns and volunteers
Schedule & Benefits
• 1 Year Contract, hours will not exceed 40 hours per 2-week pay period
• Hourly wage DOE, expected range $21.00-$25.00 per hour
• Must be available Friday afternoons to work with Museum Consultant
• Potential for permanent position as Collections Manager

Minimum Qualifications
• Experience in Japanese and Japanese diaspora history and culture, including appropriate historical and cultural knowledge and identification of cultural objects
• Degree or equivalent experience in museums, archives, libraries or similar field
• Experience in project management
• Experience managing a diverse range of people
• Strong communication skills, including phone, email and general English writing and editing skills
• Able to work independently and in a team setting
