Cornish College of the Arts
Neddy at Cornish
Established in honor of Ned Behnke (1948-1989) a Seattle artist and teacher, the Neddy at Cornish program is stewarded by Cornish College of the Arts and funded by the Behnke Foundation, and provides artists with some of the largest funding available in the State of Washington. The Neddy comprises multiple awards – eight artists annually-, a local jury panel, studio visits and interviews with this year’s curator, Juan Franco, programming for Cornish students, studio visits with our national juror, and an annual art exhibition. All artists living within the greater Puget Sound region in Washington state are encouraged to apply for one of the two categories of Painting or Open Medium. Four artists in each category are selected by the local jury panel, this year featuring Juan Alonso-Rodríguez, Michelle Bufano, and S. Surface, to receive $2,000.00 each and two winners, one from each category, are selected by this year’s national juror, Jessica Hong, to receive $25,000.00 each. All funds offered are unrestricted, and delivered at the opening of the annual exhibition, which features work from the yearly selection of artists.
