Here are just a few roster artist happenings that you may want to check out in the upcoming weeks…
Sat Dec 14 at 8pm – Lelavision‘s Leah Mann and Ela Lamblin showcase two decades of innovative creation in their ambitious and inspiring production – STG Presents: Leilavision’s Heavy Metal DëVices, featuring an ensemble of eight performers; two dozen “physical music” instruments, contraptions and set pieces fashioned from scratch; original music; and awe inspiring choreography. Moore Theatre (Seattle).
Fri Dec 13 & Sat Dec 14 at 7:30pm – De Cajon Project presents – De Cajon: DE INGA Y MANDINGA: An Afro-Peruvian tribute to mixed heritage. This bilingual (English-Spanish) multidisciplinary piece features local and international artists exploring Peruvian mixed-ethnic and cultural heritage from an Afro-Peruvian perspective. Fri Dec 13 at 9pm – Seattle’s legendary MC and freestyle king, Suntonio Bandanaz, is launching a new grown-folks-friendly hip hop weekly hang out in Columbia City, Feel Good Fridays, as co-presenter and host w/DJ Too Quick; featuring a rotating cast of DJs and a dance floor fit for the world renowned b-boys/b-girls of the town. Sat Dec 15 at 10:00 am – Cast from theater simple‘s production of Owl & Pussycat will offer a free two-hour interactive arts workshop focused on poetry, visual arts, and theatre for children at “Tea and Nonsense” for ages 4 – 10 and their families. AND…
Sat Dec 28 & Sun Dec 29 – Catch theater simple‘s final 2013 full performance of “Owl & Pussycat.” Shakespearean couplets, songs, four actors, and a pea green boat, Owl & Pussycat’s escapades illuminate a love of adventure and some adventures of love both events are at Kirkland Performance Center (Kirkland).
Fri Dec 20 at 7pm – Seattle Cultural Evenings with Helene Eriksen and ANAR DANA are monthly community gatherings with food, art and culture. This month’s event focuses on The Mystical Poetry of Iran and the celebration of Shab-e Yalda (Winter Solstice). Email Helene Erikson for more info. Ravenna (Seattle).
Sat Dec 21 at 7:30pm – Find out why Smilin Scnadanavians is considered one of Western Washington’s best polka bands at this Pacific Northwest at Christmastime performance at Third Place Books (17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park).
Sat Dec 28 at 1:00pm – Living Voices presents Northwest Passages, written by Rachel Atkins. Witness the dynamically changing Northwest at the turn of the century. The expansion of the railroad, the discovery of gold, labor struggles, and world war – these are the passages experienced by a young Swedish immigrant and her community. As she interacts with her African, Asian, and Native American neighbors you’ll discover the diversity of the American experience. Every fourth Saturday, Living Voices presents a solo performance of their historical repertory theater at MOHAI (Seattle).
