We are excited to announce the 2014 VETS RESTORE application period is now open and available through vetsrestore.org! If you or someone you know is interested in a career in preservation carpentry, this program offers a 12-week training & internship program for King County’s military veterans interested in the historic preservation building trades.

This year we are offering eight openings to qualified veterans who are currently residing in King County, Washington. Priority will be given to those who served post 9/11 and are transitioning back to civilian life. Students will learn the basics of preservation carpentry through hands-on projects from specialists in the field. Post training, each student will join one of our VETS RESTORE Industry Affiliates – Rafn Company, JAS Design/Build, Bear Wood Windows, Historic Seattle and others – for five weeks of a paid internship on a building rehab job site.

The application period opens May 1st, 2014 and all applications are due by 5p.m. on Monday, June 9th. Applications will be reviewed by VETS RESTORE staff for eligibility, and interviews of potential students will be conducted the first week of June. For additional program information (including a full calendar), or to start an application, visit the VETS RESTORE website and click on the “2014 Application” page. Training, internships and certificate presentation will take place June 23rd – September 17th.

Enrollees in the program will receive stipends for tools and gear, case management, transportation assistance and pay during the internship portion of the program, provided by the King County Veterans’ Program.
