Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience

Call for art

  • Deadline:
  • Budget: A $200 honorarium will be provided to selected artists

The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience (the Wing Luke Museum), in partnership with a community-led advisory committee, is seeking artwork for an exhibition that will open in October 2022.

Weaving together historical materials, first person stories, and contemporary artworks by artists from a range of cultural/ethnic backgrounds, this exhibition will explore the complex landscape of resistance to the WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans, and the ongoing legacy of that resistance, for the Japanese American community and the nation as a whole. The exhibition seeks to illuminate connections between this history and the experiences of other communities that are working to heal from trauma, right historic wrongs, dismantle oppressive systems, and envision new realities.

The museum seeks submissions from artists of all cultural backgrounds whose work explores the exhibition’s themes of resistance, justice, patriotism, loyalty, responsibility, and solidarity. These artworks will be woven into the thematic storyline of the exhibit, presented within the context of related historical and contemporary stories. Submissions may be in any media, including 2-D, 3-D, or digital formats, including video.
