Preschool in the Park Teaching Artist Opportunities- Freeway Park Seattle

  • Eligibility: This Call is open to artists age(s) 18+ residing in the Seattle area. The FPA team will prioritize artists/teaching artists with: • Experience teaching early learners (ages 3-5) • Experience developing lesson plans. • Are active practitioners in at least one arts-focus area (visual, music, dance, etc) • Are interested in joining a collaborative process with partners from the Freeway Park Association and the teachers at downtown preschools. • Availability for teaching a weekday, mid-day classes

Preschool in the Park: Creating Connections with Dance, Music, Acts of Service and Creative Play

Freeway Park Association (FPA) seeks teaching artists to lead an outdoor learning program for preschool-aged children from the First Hill and Downtown neighborhoods. This program is funded in-part by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission’s (ArtsWA) Creative Start program.

DETAILS

For Preschool in the Park, FPA is partnering with local downtown preschools to enrich their curriculum and create connections between the children and their environment. The selected Pre-school in the Park teachers will work with our team to develop and teach an arts education series in the park for preschool aged kids from August 2025- June 2026.

Classes can utilize dance, theater, music, storytelling and visual arts components. The curriculum enrichment goals include: creating a connection between children and their place in the community, learning about the diversity of the neighborhood and their classmates, and providing opportunities for no-cost arts and creative play in an underserved neighborhood.

The selected teachers will work collaboratively with FPA and preschool educators to build a relevant, age appropriate curriculum. FPA will likely hire 4-6 teaching artists with different areas of expertise to plan and teach three to four 1.5 hour classes each.

Each teaching artist selected will be paid $1200 for 3-4 class meetings. FPA will cover materials and support classes on site.
