Sound Transit Artist Candidate Pool – Request for Qualifications

  • Deadline:
  • Budget: To be determined based on the scale of a particular project opportunity.
  • Eligibility: Selected artists must be professional artists whose work demonstrates mastery in their chosen media. Sound Transit staff and consultants are not eligible to apply. Artists from the West Seattle and Ballard communities are encouraged to apply.

The Sound Transit Art Program (STart) is accepting applications to create a pool of artist candidates for
future commissioned permanent and temporary public art projects. This Artist Pool will be used to identify and review candidates for opportunities at the Alaska Junction, Avalon and Delridge Stations currently planned for the West Seattle Link Extension (WSLE).

Most of the artist opportunities will be for two-dimensional works of art, though there may also be a few opportunities for works of sculpture. STart assumes that two-dimensional works of art will be fabricated in durable materials such as cut metal, glass, porcelain enamel or mosaic. Depending on the selected artists’ individual skills, artwork will either be fabricated by the artist or a third-party fabricator commissioned by STart.

Selected artists for the Artist Candidate Pool will not be under contract with Sound Transit initially and are not guaranteed a commissioned public art project but will be eligible as candidates until May 31, 2028. STart reserves the right to use the Artist Candidate Pool for additional art opportunities on other Sound Transit projects and to reopen the application process annually.
