Assistant Head of Wardrobe – IATSE Local 887

The Lead Dresser, is primarily responsible for the organization, presetting, and assisting with changes of assigned actor tracks. Should a show require more than two day-work/maintenance people, they will be the first person called for maintenance and day work. They are to be an exemplar example of how backstage dressers work and interact with actors and be able to share their knowledge with newer dressers. This position is represented by IATSE, Local No. 887.

Actively participate in IATSE wardrobe crew, supervise run and day work crews. Communicate with design team and Wardrobe Director to assess wardrobe needs. Maintain communication with the Costume, Wardrobe, and Hair Director to plan and problem-solve wardrobe requirements. Assist in setting up and facilitating show laundry systems and schedules in collaboration with the Costume and Wardrobe Assistant. Collaborate with the Wardrobe Head to create and assign dressing tracks for the department. Liaise between dressers, Wardrobe Head, and actors. Maintain quick-change areas, assist with maintenance. Organize paperwork, update wardrobe stock. Coordinate costume load-outs. Ensure safe working conditions. Attend and contribute to equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts. Assist in coordinating costume load-outs for productions. Uphold safe working conditions per AEA, OSHA, and Infectious Disease Protocols. Attend and participate in production meetings, department meetings, and show-specific costume meetings as requested.

Qualifications: Theatre degree (Costumes focus) with 1-2 years of wardrobe/run crew or 5 years of dressing/wardrobe run crew experience. Knowledge of production processes, fabrics, quick-change choreography, conflict resolution. Strong leadership, adaptability, Microsoft Office skills. Familiarity with Equity rules, OSHA, flexible scheduling. Experience in large-scale productions, advanced costume knowledge, and respectful communication regarding diversity. Background check required.
