Filipino Community Poetry Workshop: Palengke

Location: Filipino Community Center 5740 Martin Luther King Jr Way S, Seattle, WA 98118
Date: Sep 30, 2023
Time: 3:00 - 5:00 pm

Poetry in Public offers workshops celebrating poetry, guiding you on a journey toward writing a poem that may be featured on King County public transit in 2024.

This workshop aims to encourage participants to write poetry, share personal migration stories, and connect each other’s migration histories to the larger pattern of Filipino migration and reasons for leaving the Philippines. Writing prompts will invite participants to reflect on where they or their family came from in the Philippines and landed after leaving the archipelago.

Filipino Community Liaison Troy Osaki will lead the facilitation of this workshop primarily in English. Osaki is a poet, organizer, and attorney. He will perform at 6:30 pm during the Palengke, which celebrates the start of Filipino American History Month.

Workshops are free and open to the public; please register in advance at the link below.

Please be aware that a photographer will be present at in-person events. We will ask for your consent to use photographs and recordings of your likeness for marketing or promotional purposes.
