Youth Community Poetry Workshop ft. Wei-Wei Lee

Location: White Center Teen Program, Log Cabin at Steve Cox Memorial Park 1321 SW 102nd St, Seattle, WA 98146
Date: Sep 29, 2023
Time: 5:00 - 6:30 pm

Poetry in Public offers workshops celebrating poetry and guiding you on a journey toward writing a poem that may be featured on King County public transit in 2024.

This workshop is designed for youths ages 13-17. Participants will explore the poetic possibilities in Places of Landing — the theme for Poetry in Public 2023-2025. The idea of landings extends from the land itself to each person’s sense of being, including emotional landings, memories of place, and what we can learn from the movements of fellow beings on this planet. This workshop provides opportunities for participants to submit original poems or take their ideas and drafts home to submit later if they wish to do so.

2019/20 Seattle Arts & Lectures Youth Poet Laureate Wei-Wei Lee will be this workshop's Spotlight Poet. Lee hopes to pay tribute to both Taiwan and America in her writing, and she hopes to do them proud. Youth Community Liaison Sierra Nelson will lead the facilitation of this workshop in English. Sierra Nelson is a poet, multimedia performance and installation artist, and teacher, bringing her extensive collaboration experience and love of marine sciences to her artistic and teaching practices.

Workshops are free and open to the public; please register in advance at the link below.
